Some of you have asked if anyone was suckered into switched to the new AT&T Uverse for television and internet service. Happily for you, unfortunately for us, we made the switch. IT WAS A BAD CALL!
To begin with, remember how they tore up our sidewalks for weeks and weeks a few months ago? My yard had two huge holes, on both sides of the driveway for their new fiber optic installation. Then, four weeks ago, when AT&T came to do the final install and hook up our DV-R, they discovered the fiber optics were faulty. They had to dig more holes in our yard to put in newer cables.
Brilliant. If it were my company, I would have tested my equipment before pouring cement.
So, that pushed our installation off another week. This Wednesday will mark three weeks since we had their service installed. I’m hoping we cancel it before then, because the frustration is not worth it.
When the television works (my husband is on the phone trying to get it working… again… as it goes out EVERY SINGLE DAY), the picture is gorgeous. We have a large LCD flat screen television, and enjoy the eye candy of the HD channels… when it works. I am not exaggerating when I tell you EVERY SINGLE DAY the main box quits working for no apparent reason. So, we shelled out money to watch our DVD collection, since the tv chooses not to work.
Then, there’s the internet. We’re big internet people in this house. We have something like a dozen websites we operate, many computers, and four web cams running in our house. Since I am currently unemployed, internet is vital to both my job search and to my freelance writing that is supplementing our household income. The selling point for us on this AT&T Uverse crap was the internet speed. We selected the fastest speed possible.
We’re pretty happy with the internet speed. BUT, and this is big, we cannot get our internal network to work with their router. And no one at the 24/7 help desk (closed on weekends, so not really 24/7) can help us figure it out. On the bright side, with our cameras off line, I don’t have to worry about any of you spying on me while I surf, but on the other hand, our cameras are off line, and this irritates the hell out of us.
My husband is giving AT&T a few more days. If I had my way, we would cancel their crappy service and switch back to whatever we had before.
Consider yourself warned. And, please, if you’re having a positive experience, let me know so I can be jealous of your luck.
