I’m late on this, but we have a new community management company, Grace Realty. They may be reached at 407-644-4440.

Does anyone know who broke the pedestrian gate at the Conway entrance over the weekend?

what else is in your pond?

Saw this four footer in the pond at the Conway entrance.

Keep an eye on your kids and small pets!

what’s in your pond?

For those of you who are not as odd as I am… here’s a look at the islands of fire ants displaced by all the rain you might have missed seeing.

The tadpoles were feasting on the floating fire ant buffet. For you frog haters, that’s not good news; but I’m a fire ant hater, so I’m thrilled to have a few less ants to worry about finding their way to my bare feet.

AT&T Uverse

by Rachel ~ April 6th, 2009

Some of you have asked if anyone was suckered into switched to the new AT&T Uverse for television and internet service. Happily for you, unfortunately for us, we made the switch. IT WAS A BAD CALL!

To begin with, remember how they tore up our sidewalks for weeks and weeks a few months ago? My yard had two huge holes, on both sides of the driveway for their new fiber optic installation. Then, four weeks ago, when AT&T came to do the final install and hook up our DV-R, they discovered the fiber optics were faulty. They had to dig more holes in our yard to put in newer cables.

Brilliant. If it were my company, I would have tested my equipment before pouring cement.

So, that pushed our installation off another week. This Wednesday will mark three weeks since we had their service installed. I’m hoping we cancel it before then, because the frustration is not worth it.

When the television works (my husband is on the phone trying to get it working… again… as it goes out EVERY SINGLE DAY), the picture is gorgeous. We have a large LCD flat screen television, and enjoy the eye candy of the HD channels… when it works. I am not exaggerating when I tell you EVERY SINGLE DAY the main box quits working for no apparent reason. So, we shelled out money to watch our DVD collection, since the tv chooses not to work.

Then, there’s the internet. We’re big internet people in this house. We have something like a dozen websites we operate, many computers, and four web cams running in our house. Since I am currently unemployed, internet is vital to both my job search and to my freelance writing that is supplementing our household income. The selling point for us on this AT&T Uverse crap was the internet speed. We selected the fastest speed possible.

We’re pretty happy with the internet speed. BUT, and this is big, we cannot get our internal network to work with their router. And no one at the 24/7 help desk (closed on weekends, so not really 24/7) can help us figure it out. On the bright side, with our cameras off line, I don’t have to worry about any of you spying on me while I surf, but on the other hand, our cameras are off line, and this irritates the hell out of us.

My husband is giving AT&T a few more days. If I had my way, we would cancel their crappy service and switch back to whatever we had before.

Consider yourself warned. And, please, if you’re having a positive experience, let me know so I can be jealous of your luck.

spamalot

by Rachel ~ March 26th, 2009

Hi neighbor.

This website has been getting spammed like crazy. Consequently, I have installed a program that will automatically close the comments after forty-five days. You won’t be able to comment on older posts. I’m sorry if this is inconvenient in any way, but my email is getting filled with spam every day; I’m hoping this solves that problem for me.

Thanks for understanding! No one likes spam.

And, for no apparent reason, a sandhill crane in my backyard:

And an otter in my backyard:

Just in case you’re missing the spectacular wildlife around here.

Gate news

by Rachel ~ March 18th, 2009

What happened to the Daetwyler gate?  Apparently a truck pulling a trailer attempted to enter through the exit on the Daetwyler side.  We know who did it.  It will take about two weeks for the gate to be repaired.

The gates are open during rush hour Monday through Friday as follows:

from 7:30am to 9:00am
from 4:30pm to 6:30pm

Hopefully this will cut down on wear and tear on the gates and save our HOA some money in gate maintenance.

Speaking of the gates, please please please stop taping your gate code to the call box when you have a party or yard sale. On the bright side, the code that was taped to the gate a couple weeks ago is much easier for me to remember than my own code, and now I use yours. If you need the gates open, please call Community Management and let them know when. Chances are, we’ll open the gates for you. Taping your code to the call box puts our entire community at risk of increased crime.

spring yard sale

by Rachel ~ March 12th, 2009

Hey neighbor!
Start going through your closets, attic, and garage; we’re having a community yard sale in April.

Stay tuned for more details.

Also, sorry for the lack of updates. Technical difficulties meant I was locked out of the site for a while. All is well again.

Exciting new year ahead of us!

by Rachel ~ January 1st, 2009

Happy New Year, Neighbor!

We have some exciting neighborhood improvement lined up for this year. Hopefully you are all pleased with Blade Runners, our new landscape company. They have done a great job ameliorating our neighborhood. They have agreed to trim our road-side trees for free! As such, please mark your calendars: January 15th & 16th: DO NOT PARK IN THE ROAD UNDER A TREE! The trees along the road will be trimmed. CONWAY HARBOR, COMMUNITY MANAGEMENT, and BLADE RUNNERS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE DURING THE TREE TRIMMING PROCESS! Do not park on the road, especially near a tree, on those two days.

Also coming up: we will be having our roads sealed. This is going to be a bit of a logistical headache, since the newly sealed sections cannot be driven on for 24 hours. Stay tuned for more information about this, as we are still in the investigation phase about how this is going to work for us.

We are continuing to argue with the City about that malfunctioning drain near the Daetwyler entrance. The City says it’s our problem (and it’s tens of thousands of dollars to have it fixed), and our argument is that the City built the faulty drain, it should be their mistake to fix. It’s a never-ending circle of frustration. Hopefully we’ll win the argument and get the City to fix their mistake so we don’t have to have a special assessment to try to fix the drain out of our own funds.

If it’s October, it must be time to pay the HOA dues

by Rachel ~ October 14th, 2008

Just a friendly reminder that if you have not already done so, HOA dues are due.
